iPad Pro is the Future

Imagine you go to the store and purchase your next “computer” and you take it home. This one device can function as your tablet, laptop, and desktop. The screen is the tablet. When you attach the keyboard, it becomes your laptop. When you plug it into the monitor and connect the accessories, it becomes you desktop. How awesome would that be.

What if you spent $2000 at the store, but you got all 3 devices out of 1? Would it be powerful enough for useful tasks? What operating system would it have? Is the potential actually there?

Well, I am no expert, but allow me to use my imagination and you can enjoy this hypothetical future that I want!

Let’s begin with the operating system

The iPadOS platform is something that I believe will revolutionize the computer market. Think about the power the iPad Pro possesses already. It can playback 4K video in LumaFusion better than MacBook Pro’s can in Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro. Windows and MacOS are operating systems of different architecture. Imagine all the programs that Windows and MacOS are capable of running, but adapted and optimized to the iPad. It would not require the level of specifications as most computers or laptops.

If you need the more computer like look and feel, when you dock the iPad Pro into the keyboard or plug it into the dock for the monitor, you should have an option to toggle on iPadOS with a MacOS type of look and functionality. This is how the multiple devices in one idea comes in.

The ultimate machine

One device to rule them all, that is the dream. Even cooler than having an iPad that turns into a laptop and even a desktop would be to have a foldable iPad that can be an iPhone that turns into a mini laptop and even a desktop. These would be insane devices that seem like they would come out of the show Black Mirror.

I would trade in my desktop, tablets, and laptop for that one device. You wouldn’t have to have all the space your current computers require. You would not need to have to decide between which form of computer you should purhcase. You just buy one and it can turn into all of them. If you don’t need a laptop, then you would buy the dock for the desktop setup. If you don’t need the desktop, then you would buy the keyboard dock for the laptop setup. If you want a tablet, then you would just not buy any add ons. Then, for the mini one you would have the same options, except you also get a phone.

Tell me that this would not be awesome to see!

All the power you need

The iPad Pro model that we have today is extremely powerful as it is. For these future devices, the power would be enough to run this futuristic operating system. The professional programs that we are used to could be optimized for this new operating system and would be more efficiently made than ones for Windows or MacOS. Imagine SolidWorks running on the iPad Pro. I know I would much rather make SolidWorks drawings on an iPad with a stylus than a desktop or laptop.

What do you think about this idea of a device to replace them all? Obviously this type of product is probably years and years away from becoming a reality and it would probably cost a lot more (especially if Apple makes it). I do think that the iPad is the future of the computer and that sooner or later the potential of it will be realized. There is a lot of work to be done to develop the iPad Pro and iPadOS as it is right now to make it more functional, but in time, it will become the device to rule them all.
